AmberPoint CTO Paul Butterworth Bestowed the UC Irvine 2005 Lauds & Laurels Distinguished Alumnus Award

Enterprise Software Pioneer Recognized for Contributions to the Industry and Community

Oakland, California, May 25, 2005 -- AmberPoint, the leading provider of SOA management solutions, is proud to announce that its chief technology officer, Paul Butterworth, has been recognized by the University of California at Irvine with the Lauds & Laurels Distinguished Alumnus Award. The award acknowledges Paul’s professional achievements at pioneering new technologies and founding companies that have brought recognition to the institution and the UCI Alumni Association.

Mr. Butterworth was honored with the award in a ceremony at UC Irvine yesterday, May 24, 2005. The UCI Lauds & Laurels Awards recognize, honor, and celebrate the accomplishments of alumni, students, faculty, staff, and community friends of UCI. Recipients of Lauds & Laurels Awards have contributed to the mission of the campus and the UCI Alumni Association and/or brought recognition to the institution and the UCI Alumni Association through their achievements, studies, and/or profession.

Mr. Butterworth has repeatedly launched new technologies that were ahead of the market, and has established himself as a true pioneer of enterprise computing. He has consistently foreseen opportunities ahead of the market, including his work on relational database technologies at Ingres, partitioning technologies that simplified the development of multi-tier applications at Forte (which became Sun’s Java Development Tools division), and AmberPoint’s new service oriented architecture (SOA) management solutions.

Mr. Butterworth is chief technology officer for AmberPoint. He was previously chief technology officer for Forte Tools at Sun. At Sun, he was responsible for the technical strategy for the Sun developer tools products. As a founder of Forte Software, Mr. Butterworth was the chief architect and senior vice president of Engineering and Customer Services. Before founding Forte, he served as chief architect and director of Product Engineering at Ingres Corporation. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Information and Computer Science from University of California at Irvine.
