AmberPoint Customer Northern Trust Wins Network World User Excellence Award

Northern Trust Commended by Network World for Use of AmberPoint Management Foundation

Oakland, California, January 4, 2005 -- AmberPoint, the leading provider of service-oriented architecture (SOA) management solutions, announced today that Northern Trust has been honored by the Network World User Excellence Awards for its implementation of AmberPoint Management Foundation. Network World’s User Excellence Award honors organizations using network technology in innovative and effective ways to further corporate goals. Northern Trust was named a runner-up in the User Excellence category and was profiled in the December 27 issue of Network World.

“Developing Web services under a management framework promises to drastically reduce the complexity, development time and cost of building applications while giving Northern Trust a testing ground for how to use Web services with external clients,” says Beth Schultz, editor, Network World's Power Issue. Northern Trust earns runner-up status, from among more than fifty nominations, for this studied, business-changing approach to Web services.”

This marks the second time that Northern Trust has been recognized for its innovative use of Web services and specifically for its implementation of AmberPoint Management Foundation. In September, Northern Trust won the Best Practices in Enterprise Management Award from Computerworld.

“We view AmberPoint as a strategic partner in our SOA initiative,” said Timothy Theriault, president and business unit head of Worldwide Operations and Technology at Northern Trust. “With AmberPoint Management Foundation we’ve been able to quickly deliver comprehensive management capabilities across a heterogeneous environment. AmberPoint solutions are a key part of our enterprise-wide Web services deployment.”

Northern Trust is one of the world’s leading financial institutions. With the capabilities provided by AmberPoint, Northern Trust has achieved:

  • Interoperability across a distributed, heterogeneous, enterprise-wide system

  • A robust enterprise architecture for Web services

  • Uniform management and security functionality across an enterprise SOA environment

  • Lower development costs and total cost of ownership

  • Economies of scale from service re-use

“We are very pleased Northern Trust continues to be recognized for their IT leadership in SOA,” said John Hubinger, CEO of AmberPoint. “This award validates AmberPoint’s innovative technology and ability to play a key part in pioneering SOA implementations.”
