AmberPoint Integrates Industry-Leading Web Services Management Solutions with Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005

Web Services Management Leader Connects Solutions to MOM 2005

Microsoft Management Summit, Las Vegas, Nevada, March 16, 2004 -- AmberPoint, the industry-leading provider of Web services management solutions, announced today that it has connected its product suite with Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM) 2005. Leveraging Microsoft’s MOM Connector Framework (MCF) and through use of MOM Management Packs, AmberPoint is supporting Microsoft’s Dynamic Systems Initiative by enabling its comprehensive management solutions to communicate bi-directionally with MOM 2005. As a result, customers of both companies can now automate sophisticated management tasks and drill-down into performance issues and service failures end-to-end across their complete IT environments, including heterogeneous Web services components.

AmberPoint solutions offer a uniquely non-invasive approach for managing distributed, heterogeneous service-oriented systems. AmberPoint integrates into any Web services environment, quickly delivering comprehensive management, monitoring and security capabilities without requiring additional coding to or embedding proprietary controls into the Web services themselves.

“By integrating its leading Web services management software with MOM 2005, AmberPoint is leveraging the manageability in the Windows platform to help deliver dynamic management capabilities across distributed IT landscapes,” said David Hamilton, director of the Enterprise Management Division at Microsoft Corp. “We’re pleased to be working with AmberPoint to help customers benefit from the Dynamic Systems Initiative today, with easy-to-implement, self-managing systems.”

Actively Managing Service Levels
AmberPoint Service Level Manager is the leading management solution dedicated to optimizing the performance and availability of enterprise-wide Web services systems. Tracking service level agreements across both individual services and processes that span multiple Web services, Service Level Manager alerts MOM of performance and availability issues in Web services-based systems. AmberPoint leverages the Microsoft MCF to maintain synchronized alert profiles between MOM and AmberPoint. With a single click, MOM console users can follow Web services performance alerts back to detailed information collected by AmberPoint.

Exception Analysis and Resolution
AmberPoint Exception Manager enables real-time detection and resolution of both system-level and application-level runtime exceptions across Web services-based applications. Exception Manager detects exception patterns that span one or more Web services, and provides end-to-end visibility into the underlying service interactions. Integrated with MOM 2005, it allows operations staff to quickly drill-down into and understand the root cause of process exits, transaction failures and anomalies that would otherwise require time-consuming, resource-intensive sifting through log files.

Benefits

  • End-to-end System Management: Integrated with MOM, AmberPoint delivers a consolidated view into Web services systems, enabling organizations to manage the real-time behaviors of their entire IT stacks and reducing total costs of ownership.

  • Bi-directional Information Flow: AmberPoint furnishes MOM with system-level and application-level information on Web services. AmberPoint also receives instrumentation and management commands from MOM, creating dynamic self-management capabilities.

  • Dynamic Self-management: AmberPoint collaborates with MOM in managing Web services systems, automatically performing actions that ensure operational health and optimize business value. AmberPoint complements MOM’s event-driven management capabilities, extending self-management across the complete IT environment.

  • Application-level Visibility: Because they can monitor the content of Web services requests and responses, AmberPoint solutions are able to associate business relevance with events published to MOM, allowing operations staff to determine the impact of those events.

  • Non-invasive: In contrast to approaches that require controls to be coded into applications, AmberPoint’s non-invasive solutions can be added seamlessly at any time and without additional coding to the Web services themselves.

“Our enhanced integration with Microsoft Operations Manager 2005 is in direct response to the requirements of our many customers that are developing Web services on the Microsoft .NET Framework and using MOM to manage their enterprise systems,” said John Hubinger, AmberPoint CEO. “MOM 2005 brings important new proactive capabilities for systems management. We’re extending and enhancing those capabilities to Web services systems so that our mutual customers can achieve rich management across their complete IT landscapes.”
