AmberPoint Announces Developer’s Edition of Its Industry-Leading Web Services Management Solutions

Delivers Monitoring and Diagnostic Capabilities to Help Developers Take Web Services into Production

Microsoft Professional Developers Conference -- Los Angeles, Calif., October 28, 2003 -- AmberPoint, Inc., today announced a developer’s edition of its industry-leading management software for Web services on the Microsoft .NET Framework. AmberPoint Express provides the monitoring and management capabilities IT organizations require to ensure that their Web services developments have the performance and reliability for production deployments. AmberPoint Express will be generally available later this quarter.

AmberPoint Express is a developer’s edition of AmberPoint’s industry-leading enterprise-class Web services management solutions. It provides the monitoring and diagnostic capabilities developers require to gain insight into the performance and reliability of their Web services in pre-production environments. Like all AmberPoint products, AmberPoint Express is completely non-invasive, requiring no modifications to the Web services code, the client code or the SOAP messages. This version of AmberPoint Express executes in native Microsoft Visual C# .NET and offers enhancements made possible by fully utilizing the Web services system libraries of the Microsoft common language runtime (CLR). AmberPoint has tightly integrated this version of its developer's edition with Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2003.

In related news, AmberPoint announced today that a customized version of AmberPoint Express will be distributed with the next version of Microsoft Visual Studio, code-named “Whidbey”. (See “AmberPoint to Deliver Tools for Managing Web Services in Microsoft Visual Studio ‘Whidbey’”)

"AmberPoint Express will help us to establish and maintain best practices across our IT teams as we roll out new Web services," said Kevin Poulter, application technology manager at British American Tobacco. "It provides the diagnostic capabilities we require to ensure that our Web services meet enterprise performance standards and will help to validate the business utility of applications before they are implemented."

Rich Monitoring and Diagnostic Capabilities
AmberPoint Express provides the functionality developers require to monitor, analyze and fine-tune their Web services on the .NET Framework, including:

  • Auto-discovery and management of Web services

  • Live performance charts for Web services and operations

  • Drill-downs into problem invocations and faults for diagnosis

  • Views of messages in human-readable or XML formats for easy analysis

  • Auto-generated or logged messages for testing

“AmberPoint Express meets a real market need,” said Jason Bloomberg, senior analyst at ZapThink LLC. “As more and more organizations look to take their Web services from experiment to production, there’s a growing need for real-time visibility into the characteristics of those Web services. AmberPoint Express provides an effective means for Web services developers to validate their projects, and therefore represents a significant step forward in corporate adoption of Web services.”

Customer Benefits
AmberPoint Express reduces the time and effort required to ensure the production-readiness of Web services.

  • Faster time-to-deployment for Web services

  • Clearer understanding of Web service runtime characteristics

  • Lower development costs

  • Requires no modifications to Web services code

“We developed AmberPoint Express in direct response to customer needs,” said John Hubinger, AmberPoint CEO. “While our other software solutions meet enterprise requirements for managing and securing production Web services, there was a real need for development tools to ensure the performance of Web services before taking them live. Our version of AmberPoint Express for Visual Studio .NET 2003 and the .NET Framework is the result of our close working relationship with Microsoft and our commitment to helping businesses to benefit from Web services systems.”

Availability
An early access version of AmberPoint Express that works with current versions of Microsoft Visual Studio .NET is provided free to all attendees at the 2003 Microsoft PDC in Los Angeles. Users of AmberPoint Express will be able to easily upgrade to editions of AmberPoint with advanced features for managing more complex, distributed Web services-based systems.
