"After a long evaluation of various Web services management solutions, BT has chosen AmberPoint as an integral part of our Web services offering to customers,” said Peter Gandy, head of Web Services for BT Global Services. “We have been deploying Web services for some time and believe that a solid management foundation that provides active management, monitoring and security is vital for enterprise Web services. AmberPoint integrates easily into diverse Web services environments, helping to shorten implementation cycles.”
BT is the first major network service provider to offer Web services management solutions to customers. After more than two years of evaluation and deployment of Web services, BT introduced its ‘business class’ environment for the delivery of Web services-based solutions. A key part of this environment is the Web Services Management Layer (WSML), a tool that ensures transactional integrity and security and enables both the customer and the provider to track and monitor the usage and performance of the services. With the addition of AmberPoint’s Management Foundation and Service Level Manager to the WSML, BT can provide a solution that enables customers to monitor and manage their complete Web services systems, including heterogeneous Web services inside the corporate firewall.
BT also selected AmberPoint solutions to bring critical management capabilities to its Web services deployments. The company currently runs several customer-facing Web services, such as the Broadband Availability Checker, a service that enables customers to check broadband availability at their homes simply by entering their phone numbers on BT’s website. BT recognizes the importance of this, and similar services, and is looking at ways of using AmberPoint to raise their business value.
“It’s a natural fit for BT to have extended their communications expertise to XML messaging,” said John Hubinger, AmberPoint CEO. “BT has been working with Web services for quite some time, so their evaluation process was grounded in the reality of having faced the real-world challenges of implementing Web services throughout their company. They’re successfully leveraging their experience in this area to help organizations reap the rewards of Web services in a trustworthy, business-ready environment. We look forward to a long and productive relationship with BT.”
"BT is the latest addition to AmberPoint's list of partners and customers, showing that AmberPoint's products are gaining traction in the Web services marketplace," said Jason Bloomberg, senior analyst, ZapThink. "The fact that BT has chosen to implement AmberPoint solutions shows two things: first, that Web services technologies address real-world business needs now, and second, that AmberPoint's Web services management solutions meet the carrier-grade quality requirements of today's enterprises."
AmberPoint solutions offer a uniquely non-invasive approach for managing distributed, heterogeneous Web services systems. AmberPoint integrates into any Web services environment, quickly delivering comprehensive management, monitoring and security capabilities without requiring additional coding to the Web services themselves. AmberPoint is the only software vendor with management solutions that run natively in both .NET and Java, enabling its software products to fully leverage the advantages of both prevailing Web services platforms.
