AmberPoint Integrates with Microsoft Operations Manager

Leading Web Services Management Solution Extends Microsoft’s Enterprise Systems Management Capabilities

Oakland, California, March 18, 2003 -- At the Microsoft Management Summit, AmberPoint, Inc., announced that it is integrating its industry-leading Web services management solutions with Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM), Microsoft's enterprise monitoring, management and security solution. The combination of AmberPoint and MOM provides comprehensive management capabilities across the extended enterprise, including Web services built on any platform and running on either side of corporate firewalls.

“Web services are playing a growing role in the increasingly diverse mix of enterprise IT assets,” said David Hamilton, director of the Enterprise Management Division at Microsoft Corp. “The integration of AmberPoint with Microsoft Operations Manager addresses the unique requirements that come with the addition of Web services-based systems. It provides visibility into and management of the complete IT environment, enabling organizations to maximize the business value of their evolving systems.”

Microsoft Operations Manager is a comprehensive enterprise systems management solution that simplifies the availability, performance and security of Windows-based networks and applications. MOM provides central monitoring and automatic problem resolution for networks of tens of thousands of computers, continually monitoring user actions, application software, servers and desktop computers.

AmberPoint solutions deliver monitoring, management and security capabilities that transform Web services into trustworthy, enterprise-grade business assets. AmberPoint Management Foundation™ is the only Web services management solution optimized to run natively in both Microsoft .NET and J2EE environments. The .NET version of AmberPoint, which was certified by Microsoft as Premium .NET Connected, executes in native C# and fully utilizes the XML Web services system libraries of Microsoft’s Common Language Runtime (CLR).

Earlier this year, AmberPoint and Microsoft jointly announced an agreement to build and deliver a combination of tools and management technology intended to help customers manage distributed applications based on the Microsoft® .NET Framework.

“Our integration with MOM is a big step forward in providing the end-to-end, automated management capabilities that today’s businesses require,” said John Hubinger, AmberPoint CEO. “Used in concert, our integrated solutions provide companies a panoramic view of their complete IT environments, ease the management burden by automating crucial tasks, and enable organizations to align their IT assets with business objectives.”

Customer Benefits

End-to-end systems management: Integrated with MOM, AmberPoint delivers information on Web services systems, enabling organizations to manage the real-time conditions of their complete IT environments.

  • Optimized for .NET and Java: AmberPoint is the only Web services management solution that’s optimized for both .NET and Java platforms. Integrated with MOM, AmberPoint extends comprehensive management capabilities to Web services built on either leading platform.

  • Non-invasive: In contrast to other Web services management approaches, which require that management capabilities are built into the applications, AmberPoint’s non-invasive solutions can be added seamlessly at any time and without additional coding to the Web services themselves.

  • Dynamic self-management: AmberPoint plays an active role in managing Web services systems, automatically performing actions that ensure operational health and optimize business value. AmberPoint complements MOM’s event-driven management capabilities, extending self-management across the complete IT environment.

  • Content-based management: Because it monitors the content of Web services requests and responses, AmberPoint is able to associate business relevance with events published to MOM, allowing operations staff to determine the impact of those events.

  • Service-level management: AmberPoint measures both Web services performance (throughput, response times, etc.) and business value (e.g., total orders from Platinum customers). By providing finely segmented, real-time data to MOM, AmberPoint enables organizations to dynamically allocate system resources according to business priority. For example, IT staff can dedicate high-performance servers to the Web services processing the highest-revenue orders.
