AmberPoint’s team has vast experience in distributed systems, databases, development tools and management frameworks. It is now applying that experience to the open standards of Web services to deliver solutions for making XML Web applications production-ready, business-ready and easily manageable.
“Web services are the on the way to becoming the pervasive model for e-business,” said Promod Haque, managing partner at Norwest Venture Partners. “Understandably, there are key concerns for enterprises in rolling out their Web services safely and effectively. AmberPoint identified this market need early, built a world-class product, and is set to capitalize on a major opportunity. If the past is any indication, this is the team to do it.”
Founded by John Hubinger and Paul Butterworth, both formerly of Forte and Sun, the core AmberPoint team has been addressing issues of distributed computing for nearly twenty years. Hubinger, AmberPoint’s CEO, previously was vice president of sales at Forte and a vice president in Sun’s software products and platforms division. Butterworth, AmberPoint’s CTO, was a former founder of Forte, CTO for Forte tools at Sun, and chief architect at Ingres. The team also includes Greg Batti, vice president of engineering, Gordon Loudon, vice president of the Customer Experience Group, and Ed Horst, vice president of marketing, three seasoned executives with deep experience from Sun, Forte and Ingres. The AmberPoint executive staff is complemented by a blue-chip investment team that includes Sutter Hill Ventures and Norwest.
"This team has proven its skills at identifying emerging markets and building category-leading companies,” said Bill Younger, managing director at Sutter Hill. “They’ve drawn on their collective experience, rallied around a market need and now have all the pieces necessary to execute on their vision."
AmberPoint is delivering a comprehensive suite of solutions that radically simplifies the evolution and management of business solutions built on Web services. AmberPoint addresses core enterprise requirements that are missing from the basic frameworks for Web services. The company will formally launch in June 2002, when it will announce general product availability and full product features.
“We’ve built a powerhouse team with a history of bringing strong products to market and ensuring customer success,” said Hubinger. “AmberPoint has already demonstrated significant value for our customers and partners by transforming their Web services initiatives into productive, enterprise-class business assets.”
