Cross-Vendor Business and System Visibility
Together with IBM (NYSE:IBM), Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT), IONA (NASDAQ:IONA), eXcelon and The Mind Electric, AmberPoint showed Web services integration in action based on a realistic business scenario. In the Web Services Interoperability Demonstration (WSID), customers, suppliers, warehouses and banks transacted business across a variety of technology platforms. The scenario illustrated the ease with which organizations can achieve benefits from Web services standards already in place.
AmberPoint Management Foundation extracted information from the Web services traffic between participating software vendors. For example, the AmberPoint dashboard showed real-time information on the total and average dollar amounts of all orders placed in the demonstration. The system also tracked business volume broken down by individual vendor.
Additionally, AmberPoint was able to monitor the overall health of the demonstration, showing system availability, throughput, and performance.
Seamless Integration
Each of the participating vendors developed their end-points independently and without regard to the AmberPoint management system. AmberPoint was immediately able to extract detailed information from the running system without requiring coding or system changes to the vendors' Web services.
"Cross-vendor SOAP, WSDL and UDDI interoperability is a present-day reality," said Tony Hong, co-founder of XMethods and a producer of the demonstration. "The live demonstration showcases the viability of cross-platform Web services integration. AmberPoint integrated seamlessly into our heterogeneous environment, providing real-time insight into the entire system without requiring any of the participants to change their Web services."
"Organizations require standards-based products that interoperate across complex, federated systems in order to realize the full potential of Web services," said John Hubinger, CEO of AmberPoint. "The interoperability demonstration shows just how far the industry has come. Thanks to our flexible, distributed architecture, AmberPoint delivers key features such as system-wide monitoring and management, access control, versioning and the tracking of business use, making diverse Web services environments production ready."
A live version of the interoperability demonstration will be available over the Internet in mid-September and will be accessible from the AmberPoint homepage, www.amberpoint.com.
